JAPANESE DORO SHIPPO with TSURUYA SAKURAI

SOLD OUT Jewellery

Doro Shippo is the original type of enamel colours that were developed in Nagoya. The Doro enamel colours are opaque, and in Japan the soft shine and almost stone-like quality of the fired surface is greatly admired.
Working on a copper base suitable for jewellery sized items, you will be learning to use brass cloisonné wires which are great for giving the impression of gold without the expense.
In this 3 day workshop you will be able to produce 2 or 3 pieces that will be suitable for setting in jewellery
TSURUYA SAKURAI
Sakurai San has spent his working life with the Ando Company, the oldest working Enamelling Company in Japan. Over that long career he has learned and practiced everything there is to know about the many Japanese forms of enamelling both new and old.
He has been involved as a participant and juror in many exhibitions and has supported key enamelling organisations and events.  As an energetic retiree, he is keen to share his knowledge and his relaxed and generous style make him greatly sought after as a teacher.  This will be his first time teaching outside Japan.

Design for enamelling
with Jenny Gore OAM

Good design, the combining of colours techniques and materials, and ‘artist block’ are some of the problems facing any artist and there are some simple ways of resolving these.
We will be looking at different ways of preparing designs, the practical application of various methods of creating a working drawing, then ways of interpreting this into the medium of enamel. We will also try an intuitive approach using collage and accidental ‘happenings’ on the pieces.
In this 4 day workshop we will consider the reasons for making the particular piece, the inspiration behind the idea, and fun ways of getting started when the mind is blank!

Basse-Taille
